More than twenty-five years after Ghostface first called, Scream is back!
In 2022, the slasher franchise returned to theaters with a new chapter in Woodsboro's blood-stained saga — and proved Scream is still a hit. Following the success of the movie, which united original stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette with a new class of Scream stars, Paramount Pictures promptly announced the scares would continue in Scream 6.
The upcoming sixth installment in the series will see the survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start "a fresh chapter." Scream 6 won't hit theaters until 2023, so there’s plenty of time to catch up on everything that went down in Woodsboro before then.

The film that started it all. Scream introduced audiences to final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and the Ghostface killer, as well as intrepid reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Deputy Dewey (David Arquette). Scream rewrote the rules of the slasher genre and debuted to rave reviews, becoming the highest-grossing slasher ever at the time.
Scream 2 relocated Sidney from Woodsboro to Windsor College, where a new Ghostface begins exacting copycat kills. Cox returns as Gale alongside Arquette as Dewey, Jamie Kennedy as fan favorite Randy Meeks and new additions Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jerry O'Connell, Timothy Olyphant and Jada Pinkett Smith. The final twist remains one of the most campishly delightful of the entire series.
The original trilogy wrapped up in 2000 with Scream 3, which is perhaps the most meta of all the Scream movies. Scream 3 takes Sidney to Hollywood and the set of Stab 3, the in-universe franchise based on the Woodsboro murders, where a new Ghostface is racking up a body count.
Patrick Dempsey makes his Scream debut as Detective Mark Kincaid, with Scott Foley as the director of Stab 3, Emily Mortimer as the actress playing Sidney and Parker Posey as the actress playing Gale.
Scream 4 sees Sidney returning to Westboro on the original anniversary of the Woodsboro murders, when another Ghostface killer begins targeting a new group of students — including her niece, Jill (Emma Roberts).
Hayden Panettiere joins the franchise as scream queen Kirby Reed, with a cast that also includes Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Marley Shelton and Adam Brody. Fans may be divided on Scream 4, but the killer reveal at the end remains one of the best of the series.
As the title indicates, this Scream was conceived as a "requel," rebooting the series while serving as a sequel to Scream 4. It's also the first in the franchise not to be directed by the late Wes Craven, who died in 2015, but instead by Radio Silence, aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Meanwhile, the script hails from Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt, with OG Scream creator Kevin Williamson serving as an executive producer.
